Wesoła is a former settlement at the gates of Kraków which gradually became a part of the city as it grew over the ages. Today it is in the very centre of Kraków, right next to Old Town and Kazimierz. For many years it was home to numerous medical institutions, led by the University Hospital. When most of the hospital departments moved to new venues, the city purchased parts of the district in order to transform them into a new municipal space.
Wesoła after being purchased by the city
The former hospital site, which for many decades mainly provided medical care, will be converted into Poland’s first creative district. The revitalisation process aims to preserve the historic and architectural heritage while adapting the site to the city’s current requirements.

Participation
The meetings discussing the future of Wesoła bring together local residents, academics, representatives of cultural, educational, business and administrative circles and local activists. The aim of the workshops is to jointly develop optimal revitalisation solutions for Wesoła taking into account the district’s character (quiet, many green spaces), the needs and expectations of current residents and users (cultural institutions, hospital departments, schools and universities etc.) and the options of developing and adapting existing buildings to their current functions.
