Kraków UNESCO City of Literature

Kraków was the first Eastern European and second non-anglophone city to be awarded the prestigious title of UNESCO Creative City of Literature. As the operator of the programme since 2013, the KBF supports local literary life, promotes readership and shapes creative environments based on Poland’s first municipal strategy to promote reading, launched by the Municipal Council.

The programme includes festivals, literary walks, book fairs and exchanges, creative writing projects and campaigns such as Read PL!, City Codes, Poetic Intercom and “Multipoetry. Poems on Walls”. We tirelessly support up-and-coming authors, work with large and independent bookshops, educate and encourage everyone to read more!
