According to an old proverb, happiness isn’t found in money but in pierogi, which surely makes Kraków one of the happiest cities in the world! And where better to sample some of this happiness than at the annual Pierogi Festival, held every August. The focal point of the event is the competition for two prizes: the statuette of St. Hyacinth with Pierogi, awarded by a jury, and the statuette of King Casimir the Great awarded by the public.
Votes are open to all visitors to the Mały Rynek who sample the dishes on offer and fill out a voting ticket. As well as hosting dozens of pierogi stands serving traditional and unexpected fillings, there are also events including an artistic programme, culinary workshops, floristry demonstrations, traditional blessing of herbs and a competition for the most beautiful bouquet.
Launched in 2003 by the KBF, the Pierogi Festival is now prepared together with the Kraków Merchants’ Guild.
